Movie-Fi is a smart movie discovery app that lets users find films instantly using text, voice lines, or screenshots. Whether it’s a scene, quote, or vague memory, Movie-Fi makes locating any movie fast, easy, and surprisingly accurate and even select cinema location to watch the movies.

Movie-Fi is changing the way we discover movies. Ever had a scene stuck in your head or a quote on your lips? With Movie-Fi, you can simply upload a screenshot, say a line, or type a detail—and instantly find the film you're thinking of. It’s movie magic, made smarter, turning moments of curiosity into instant discoveries.

Process

User Research: to understand how people discover movies, I engaged with over 40 individuals through online surveys. The goal was to learn about their preferences, frustrations, and habits around movie search. These insights guided the creation of detailed user personas, helping me define who I was designing for and what problems needed solving.

Ideation & Conceptualization: With research insights in hand, I mapped out information architecture and user flows. Each idea was shaped by real user stories and challenges, allowing me to focus on practical solutions.

Design Execution:

  • Wireframing:
    I designed over 60 wireframes, carefully laying out the structure of each screen. Every wireframe aimed to create a smooth and simple user experience, making it easy for users to discover movies in different ways—by voice, text, or even screenshots.

  • Prototyping:
    Using Figma, I brought the wireframes to life with interactive prototypes. These gave stakeholders a real sense of how the app would feel in use. I ran live demos to gather feedback and ensure the flow was both functional and engaging.

  • UI Design:
    The final interface featured bold, vibrant colors to spark interest and retain attention. Accessibility and clarity were key priorities. I incorporated feedback from stakeholders to refine the design, making sure it not only looked appealing but also aligned with the app’s core purpose: easy, smart movie discovery.

User Testing & Iterations: To test the app’s usability, I conducted remote user testing sessions using both qualitative interviews and quantitative surveys. I observed how users interacted with the app, what confused them, and what they loved. Based on this feedback, I made multiple iterations—improving the layout, simplifying flows, and polishing interactions to enhance overall satisfaction and engagement.

Final Presentation & Documentation: To wrap up, I created a detailed presentation and design documentation that captured the journey from research to final design. This final step not only showcased the potential of Movie-Fi but also demonstrated how thoughtful design can bridge gaps in the entertainment discovery space.

Conclusion

Being my first project as a designer, Movie-Fi was a huge learning experience. It taught me the importance of being intuitive and always prioritizing a user-friendly experience. I also realized how much the tech sector still needs to bridge key gaps in the entertainment industry—especially around smarter search tools, better content recommendations, and improved accessibility for all users.
